What I Do

If you've gotten this far into the site, you are really looking for what I can accomplish for your business. I have a keen understanding of looking at data from multiple sources, finding the common thread, and combining that data into usable information. This translates into making purchases based on concrete information and not on "gut feelings."
Transform the daily inventory files from your distributor into a data file that calculates your shipping, breakeven, cost per item, cost per multi-packs, bundles, and margins. Choose products that not only grow the bottom line but increase profitability. Just because one listing is your highest-selling, doesn't mean you are maximizing your potential. How about making the highest margin items the highest-selling listings.
With data analytics, choose what products make the most sense to maximize visibility. What products do you take the time to metatag, advertise, push resources into? Have you calculated the price of the box and manpower into the breakeven price?

Let's Analyze

Amazon
Walmart and Ebay
Excel is a pretty "old school" program. Everyone can use it to sort and add data. Most people use it like a calculator. I view excel as a gateway into the deeper aspects of data. I can clean extra characters and invisibilities and combine data to make something usable. Additionally, excel files can be used to populate databases, increasing productivity by reducing data entry time.
Shipstation is one of the most popular online services for purchasing, shipping, and printing labels for all major online retailers. The reports from shipstation can be incredibly useful in predicting what products sell in what time frame. Also, use the reporting feature to see what shipping zones your customers reside in. Calculate your average shipping costs based on this data-driven information.
I'm a big fan of Finale's web-based inventory system. It's easy to populate from spreadsheets and robust in its reporting functions. The reports show age of inventory, date to sell out, how many units have sold specific time frames, location of products, and average inventory prices.
With some excel magic, these finale reports can link to your inventory list on Amazon, Ebay, and Walmart. Imagine having the power to turn inventory on and off with a spreadsheet upload to Amazon.
Sell products on Amazon! With a small monthly fee, you can open a professional sellers account and list all manner of items for a modest 12% fee. While 12% sounds high, the cost of maintaining and marketing your own website is much higher. Amazon does the marketing for you and brings the business to your doorstep.

I use the business card analogy, Just because you have a business card doesn't mean that your target market has ever seen it. Is your card in the hands of every single person in the United States? Research the price of Google Adwords (to increase ranking) and you will soon see that Amazon is a pretty good deal.

Amazon has some great reporting features, use them to track your inventory and break evens points in real-time.
Walmart and eBay also have some reporting features. While not as robust as Amazon's, you will find they tell you a pretty good story of your account. Inventory control is not quite as easy as Amazon, but can be somewhat managed from Data uploads.
